The seven of us packed up two cars on Friday afternoon and made it down to the Red River Gorge by 10pm (after a stop at the DQ Grill and Chill for dinner and a story about pitbulls killing chickens from a proud Kentuckian).
We climbed at two sites on Saturday – Practice Wall and Roadside Crag – and enjoyed some of the famous Miguel’s pizza in the evening, before Ross led a late-night guitar session featuring Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and Blackstreet’s “No Diggity.”
Sunday morning was spent at Left Flank, where we all got up on two more routes and shared some intellectual conversation with two doctors in their fifties who were both better climbers than any of us. Dan made us leave then, because he said he had some kind of obligation back at school. Lame – I agree – but his forcing us to depart caused us to run into three white-bearded men sitting outside the convenience store. I think it’s safe to say that we’re all better people for having met them.
(Bearded Man’s Hand -v-)
Postscript: Pat and Ross attempted a 5.13. Bad. Ass.
